Shaun’s policy experience spans industrial & entrepreneurship initiatives for the Penang State Government and legislative work for Malaysian Parliamentarians. His contributions include fund-of-funds for hardtech startups, a veterans affairs’ Parliamentary Caucus, and a free laptop guarantee.
He is concurrently the founder of Mersawa Associates serving political figures & parties, and was the Chief Strategy Officer at INVOKE, instrumental to the unprecedented regime change after GE14 in 2018. Having worked on almost every Malaysian election since and several others in neighbouring countries, Shaun draws on deep & long relationships with key decision-makers in federal, state & local governments. Mersawa is currently developing AI-powered sentiment analysis tools indigenous to the Southeast Asian context.
Shaun also founded Institut Merbau, a non-profit think-and-do-tank, dedicated to advancing progress in complex systems in Southeast Asia. Some of its projects include virtual solar power plant (VPP) arrangements for underprivileged homes, vending machine ecosystems for micro-entrepreneurship, and AI-positive research & critical thinking skills development programmes.
Shaun also divides his time with his family office, managing a portfolio of industrial & tourism properties.
